What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free reporting tool with over 70 reports that has been made available by Google to promote better web metrics and usage of Google AdWords.

How does Google Analytics work?

Normally, websites sign up for a Google Account and request the Analytics option. They are provided a section of JavaScript code that needs to be inserted into every page of the website. Analytics can be viewed 24 hours after the code has been inserted.

How does 123-reg automate this?

Google Analytics Automation provides automated account creation and tracking tag insertion for Google Analytics. Customers place an order for Google Analytics Automation on the 123-reg website and 123-reg takes care of the rest. All current and future pages in the website are dynamically "tagged" with the Javascript, eliminating your implementation headaches.

Will it slow down my site?

No. There will be a tiny increase in the page loading times as the JavaScript is downloaded, but the increase is so small that it is usually not even measurable.

Will my visitors notice?

No. The system is entirely invisible to site visitors.

How will it affect my bandwidth?

Your bandwidth remains unaffected. The Google tag is added after the page is served from your server.

On which 123-reg products is Google Analytics Automation available with?

Google Analytics Automation is available for customers using the 123-reg InstantSite, ecommerce and shared web hosting products. Google Analytics Automation is not suitable for sites that use the https protocol on their "tagged" domain.

Will the host IP address of my domain change when using Google Analytics Automation?

Yes, the IP address of the host domain will change to the IP of the 123-reg tagging server.

Does Google Analytics Automation work with secure websites?

No. Google Analytics Automation works by redirecting your website through another web server which parses the web page and adds the analytics tags. Due to security restrictions this method is not suitable for sites that use the https protocol on their "tagged" domain.

How do I login to Google Analytics?

Access to Google Analytics is managed via single sign-in from the 123-reg control panel. Access to Google Analytics directly is not possible.

How long does it take for my Google Analytics account to be created?

Once we've received your order please allow up to 48 hours for your Google Analytics account to be activated. We'll send you an email with all the information as soon as this is in place.

My web site is being tagged but I can't see any statistics in Google Analytics

Once the tags are in place on your website, it takes between 24 to 48 hours for Google Analytics to collate and publish the data.

My page is not being tagged with Google tags

If you are sure that you have signed up for the service, and have allowed enough registration time, please check that the pages you wish to be tagged contain the end HTML body tag </body>.

My Google statistics don't match up with other stats I have

There are many reasons that statistics between packages do not match. Googole have a help article addressing the differing statistical values reported by various analytics packages.

If I choose to cancel Google Analytics Automation, can I still use my Google Analytics account?

If you cancel Google Analytics Automation you can still use your Google Analytics account. Please be aware that this will stop all automated tagging; you will still be able to use Google Analytics, but will now need to configure all tagging manually.
