Visitor ID FAQs

What is Visitor ID?

Visitor ID is a visitor tracking and analysis package. It gives you information about visitors to your website to help you convert them into customers. It uses reverse IP lookup and tagging to find out as much as it can.

How does Visitor ID work?

When you sign up for Visitor ID, we'll automatically add some Javascript tracking code to all current and future pages on your website. This will let you view sales leads.

Are there any limits on Visitor ID?

The Visitor ID report will send you a daily report of the last week's worth of data. With Visitor ID pro you can store information about the last 10,000 visits.

Will it slow down my site?

Not noticeably. The extra tracking code means there will be a tiny increase in the page loading time. But the different is so small that it's not usually measurable.

Will my visitors notice anything difference?

No. All your web pages will load as normal, and will look just the same as before.

Will it affect my bandwidth?

Hardly at all. The extra code on each page means that bandwidth usage will increase very slightly.

How do I access my Visitor ID options?

All the Visitor ID options can be reached through your normal 123-reg control panel. There's no separate log in (and so no additional passwords for you to remember).

I've put Visitor ID on my website, but I can't see any information. What's going on?

This could be happening for a few reasons

  • You're trying too soon. It can take up to 24 hours after you order Visitor ID for information to start coming through. This is because it takes time for Visitor ID to start collating and publishing the data.
  • You have filtered the data. Try unchecking the "Hide ISP" or "Show Tracked filters", as these could affect the results.
  • Your search is too narrow. If you are looking for something specific using the search box, try using a more general search term.

What browsers does Visitor ID support?

Visitor ID supports Internet Explorer (6 and 7), Firefox and Safari. Additional browsers may also be supported.

What does "group repeat visits" mean?

When you select group repeat visits, each visitor will be listed only once in your web leads list, even if they came to your website several times during the relevant time period.

For example, if company A visited your website three times during the relevant time period, the web leads list will show one row for Company A and a link, "3 visits grouped". Clicking the link will reveal details of the three individual visits.

This gives you a cleaner view of your web leads. If you want the extra level of detail, you just have to click the link.

How does the "track it!" feature work?

Track it! will send you an email each time a specific visitor returns to your website. To turn the feature on, just click the star next to track it! when you're viewing a Visitor ID lead. The star will go yellow.

To cancel alerts for a particular visitor, just click the star again.

The information for a web lead looks wrong. What can I do?

The profiles of companies identified by Visitor ID are automatically generated using information found on the Internet. Occasionally an internet service provider may be categorised as another sort of company, or vice versa. If you notice this happening, please click the link which says report wrong ISP categorisation or other erroneous information in company details view.

Reload the web leads page or click the Web Leads tab. This will also load the latest available visitor information.

What is the "concepts browsed" feature?

Concepts browsed is an experimental service. It's in beta at the moment, which means we're testing it and looking for your feedback. Concepts browsed examines what people have been looking at on your website to try and understand what your visitors are interested in.

This function can be useful to help you understand website visits which don't have any associated keywords. And if your website describes multiple products or services, concepts browsed can give you an easy-to-understand overview of what each website visitor was interested in, without you having to examine the path they took through your website.
