Legacy Supanames - Modifying an MX record

This article applies to legacy Supanames accounts

In order to modify any DNS record, you will need to have the 'DNS Record' feature installed in the 'Advanced Section' of your MyPANEL.

If you do not see this feature, please let us know.

MX Records are an entry in DNS that identifies your mailserver that is responsible for handling email for your domain. By default this is set to our servers as in the Mid-Hosted account example below:

If you would like your own mailserver to deal with email then you would need to amend the DNS in MyPanel

1

Delete the existing MX record by clicking delete alongside the MX entry as above

2

Create a new MX record via the Add a new DNS record section

3

In the Name of new record: field enter the @ symbol

4

In the Destination of new record field enter: mail.mydomainname replacing mydomainname with your domain name (e.g. mail.supanames.co.uk>

5

In the Type of new record field use the drop-down menu to choose MX record. The default choice should be MX record with priority of 10. You will note you can also choose the priority of the servers you wish your mail to be delivered to should you wish to create more than one MX record.

Next you will need to create an A record to point to your new MX record

6

In the Name of new record field enter mail

7

In the Destination of new record field enter the I.P. address of your external mail server e.g. 194.154.162.100

8

In the Type of new record field choose A record from the drop-down menu. e.g. 194.154.162.100

9

Save your changes

10

Log-out. Your MX record change may take a few hours to take effect
