The domain transfer page

This answer will tell you all about the domain transfer page, and how to complete a domain transfer to 123-reg.co.uk.

Once you've placed your order for a domain transfer, your domain name will appear on the domain transfer page. This page lists all recent domain transfer activity and allows you to check on the status of all your transfers.

Domains in this table are grouped into three categories:

  • Pending (amber) - this domain transfer is still in progress. It may be awaiting further information from you (for example an auth code).
  • Please Note: If your domain status is displayed as "pending registry" for a Top Level Domain transfer, this indicates that we are waiting for the approval of the losing registrar for the domain to go through. Please contact your previous provider and request them to approve the transfer.

  • Complete (green) - this domain transfer has been completed. The domain name will now be available for use in your account.
  • Cancelled (red) - this domain transfer has been cancelled. Any transfer fee's will be refunded.

To complete a domain transfer you'll need to ensure you have done the following:

Firstly, please make sure the admin contact email associated with your domain name is correct, this is really important as all transfer confirmations will be sent to this address.

Then ...

For all .uk domains

Please instruct your domain name provider to change your IPS Tag to 123-REG.

Please note: Changes to IPS Tags will now be charged. Nominet charge £10 (plus VAT) to make this change.

Once done, please visit the transfers page and check the status of your domain transfer. If you see a button labelled "Retry" next to your domain you can click this to complete the transfer.

Your transferred .uk domain will then appear in your control panel after a short while.

For .eu or .info domain names

Please ask your domain name provider to unlock your domain for transfer.

Once done, visit the transfers page and check the status of your domain transfer. If you see a button labelled "Retry" next to your domain you will need to click this to continue with your transfer.

You will then receive an email from our domain provider* with instructions on how to confirm the transfer. Follow these and confirm.

Your transferred domain will then appear in your control panel within 7-10 days.

For .biz, .com, .info, .net or .org domain names

Please ask your domain name provider to unlock your domain for transfer, and also send you the authorisation code (Auth Code).

Once done, visit the transfers page and check the status of your domain transfer. If you see a button labelled "Retry" next to your domain you will need to click this to continue with your transfer.

You will then receive an email from our domain supplier* containing instructions on how to use your authorisation code to transfer your domain. Follow these instructions.

Your transferred domain will then appear in your control panel within 7-10 days.

* Please allow up to 48 hours for your email to arrive. These emails (and the website they direct you to) will take a different format from your usual 123-reg emails. Please be assured that they are genuine and a necessary part of the transfer process.
