Generate a CSR - Microsoft Exchange

This article applies to 123-reg SSL Certificates

This article will show you how to generate a CSR Certificate for use with Microsoft Exchange.

1

Use the New-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet and the GenerateRequest parameter together with the Path paramater to define where your request file will be created. This will generate a PKCS#10 (.req) file.

The CSR must contain the following attributes to function correctly:

  • Country
  • Organisation Name
  • Common Name
  • State
  • Locality

Please note:

  • The Company listed as the Organisation Name must own the domain name that appears in the Common Name field.
  • The Common Name must be identical to the full qualified domain name of the site for which you are requesting the certificate.
  • Do not use the following characters in any of the fields: > < ! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) ~ ? / \ &

2

Open the CSR Text file you created in step 1 in a text editor, such as notepad, as you will need the contents of the file during the SSL certificate purchase process. Below is an example of what your CSR will look like.
