This article applies to 123-reg VPS and 123-reg Cloud Servers
This article will show you how to change your Reverse DNS on your 123-reg VPS or Cloud Server.
Changing your Reverse DNS should be one of the first things you do when setting up your new server. Changing your Reverse DNS will change how your server is named on the internet, but not the domain name you have associated with the server. This means that the server will not use the generic name that it is given on initial set up, helping to protect it from hackers and spammers.
Please note: You will require a free domain name in your 123-reg Account.
Login to your 123-reg Control Panel.
Scroll down to the Servers section and click on the Manage button for the server type you wish to edit.
Click the Manage button for the server you wish to edit.
This will take you to the Server dashboard. Click on the IP tab at the top of the dashboard.
Scroll down to the Reverse DNS section and click on the Edit button.
This will present a pop up which will allow you to assign a domain to your server. Select one from the drop down list and click the Assign Domain button.
Confirm you wish to complete the action by clicking on the Yes button. This will create the PTR record that changes your Reverse DNS.
Your Reverse DNS will now be changed, helping to protect you from Hackers and Spammers.
