Transferring a Top-Level Domain Name to 123 Reg

This article will provide instructions on how to transfer all top-level domain name types to 123 Reg.

Transferring your domain to 123 Reg is a straightforward process. In order for a TLD domain to be transferred into your 123 Reg account, there are a few things that need to happen first:

  • Make sure that your domain name is ‘unlocked’.
  • Acquire your domain’s Authorisation Code from your current registrar.

Your current registrar should be able to provide a unique Authorisation Code, also known as an EEP Code or Transfer Key, to confirm the transfer. Some registrars will display the authorisation code within your account, while others may email it to you upon request. Be sure to check our guide to see what steps you may need to take to acquire this information: Transferring third-party domain names to 123 Reg.

Please note: Top-Level Domains names that are newer than 60 days or within 7 of expiry cannot be transferred in or out of 123 Reg or any other registrar.

Once you’ve completed the steps outlined above, you can perform the following:

What happens next?

When the transfer has started, the current email address of your 123 Reg account will receive an email from the registry to approve the transfer of your domain. It may take up to 4 hours for you to receive this email, so don’t worry if it doesn’t come through straight away.

The Authorisation(Auth)/EPP code provided by your current provider is used to approve the transfer through this email. Once you have authorised the transfer, it can take up to 5-7 days for the transfer to be complete and the domain to be fully manageable in your account.
