Why might I want a shared hosting account and what could I use it for?
Shared hosting is a great, inexpensive way to get your voice heard. The possibilities are endless – you could air your thoughts in a blog, create a site that provides information on your hobby or interest group, or even promote your small business.
All we ask is that you stick to our Terms and Conditions.
Do I need any technical knowledge to operate a hosting account?
We make it as simple as possible for you to get your site up and running. You’ll be able to control your hosting account through your web-based control panel, so you can log in, set your account up as you like, and even use our online file manager to edit the files which make up your website.
You will, however, need either some knowledge of html or access to good web design software that you can use to create the pages of your site, and you may also find it helpful to use FTP software to move the pages you’ve created from your computer to your webspace.
If you’d rather use an all-in-one solution with which you can build and host your site through your control panel, why not take a look at our InstantSite product?
How long does it take to set up?
Typically, your account will be set up almost immediately. On the very rare occasions when this does not happen, the 123-reg team will be able to offer advice.
How do I contact the 123-reg team?
You can use the support site to ask us a question online, or you can find our details on the contact page.

What operating system is my account based on?
Your 123-reg shared hosting account is based on the Linux operating system.
Should I back up my data?
We strongly recommend that you create your own website backups. Don’t forget that backups don’t just protect against you losing everything in the unlikely event of a hardware failure – taking regular backups also means that if any changes you make cause problems you can reinstate the last successful version of the site.
Can I buy more bandwidth for my hosting account?
Of course. If you find you’re likely to exceed your bandwidth allowance for any given month, you can just log into your 123-reg control panel. You will be able to purchase additional chunks of bandwidth for that month whenever you need to for £6 for 200MB or £25 for a further 1GB.

Is there a minimum contract for a shared hosting account?
No, we don’t impose a minimum contract length. However, accounts do need to be paid for yearly in advance.
