This FAQ will show you how you can transfer a Domain Name away from 123 Reg

An IPS TAG is a way of Nominet (the not for profit company who governs the .uk domain names) giving control of a domain name to a certain company. For example the domain name 123-reg-drupal-website.co.uk currently has the IPS TAG of 123-REG. If you want to move your domain name to another provider you would need to change the IPS TAG to that of your new provider.

To transfer a .uk domain name away from 123-reg, you will need the IPS tag and the nameservers of the provider that you are transferring to. Once you have them, please follow these instructions:

1

Login to your 123-reg control panel.

2

In the Domain names section, select the relevant domain name in the drop-down list and click on the Manage button.

Select the option you require:

  • Change Nameservers - enter your new hosts' nameservers. Click here for further instructions on changing your Nameservers.
  • Change IPS Tag - enter your new providers IPS Tag. Click here for further instructions on changing your IPS tag.

It normally takes approximately 12/24 hours for this to update. However some providers have a "handshake" system where they will need to approve the transfer in and therefore the IPS tag may not update automatically. Please check with your new provider if they have this process in place so that they can approve the transfer once you have changed the TAG.
