How do I set up a SRV record on my domain?

This FAQ will show you how to add a SRV Record to your domain name.

A SRV record is a DNS entry that specifies information about a service that is available on your domain, most important, being the location of the service inside that domain.

Firstly, you need to ensure your domain is pointed to our nameservers:

  • ns.123-reg.co.uk
  • ns2.123-reg.co.uk

If the domain is not pointed to the 123-reg nameservers, you will be unable to manage them from the 123-reg control panel.

For more information on changing your nameservers please view the following article:

How do I change the nameservers for my domain name?

Please note: It will take between 24-48 hours for the new DNS records to become active

1

Login to your 123-reg Control Panel. Enter your Username and Password and click Login

2

Scroll down to the Domain Names section, select the relevant domain name from the drop down box and click the Manage button.

3

Scroll down to the heading Advanced Domain Settings and click onto Manage DNS.

4

Click onto the Advanced DNS tab.

5

For your new record, select the SRV option from the Type drop down list.

6

Your host name specifies the name of the server providing the service. Your host name can be either: _sipfederationtls_tcp.testing.com. or you can take the domain away to show just _sip.

Please note: When entering the long form host name (for example: _sipfederationtls_tcp.testing.com.) it is important to add the full stop at the end of the Host name.

7

The priority represents the prominence the record gets given. This can range from 0 to 65535, with 0 being the highest priority.

8

Your TTL specifies how long the record takes to resolve. This should be measured in seconds, for example, one hour equals 3600 seconds, so your TTL would be 3600.

9

Your destination is where the traffic is being sent to. This should show the Weight followed by the Port, and then the domain name. The values must be separated with a space and should be displayed like this: 1 5061 testing.com.

10

When complete, click the Add button. Your SRV record will now be created.

Please note:Some services, such as Microsoft 365, will require multiple SRV records to be created.

Once created, they should look something like this:
