How do I edit page titles and names on my InstantSite website?

This article applies to the 123 Reg InstantSite platform

This article will show you how you can add titles and names to pages in your InstantSite package.

Please note: Although they sound similar, names and titles of pages perform different functions.

Names of pages relate to the file name of the page. In InstantSite your page name will be mypage.php. This is the file that will be accessed when someone visits your site.

Titles of pages relate to the visible title of the page and will display on your page as well as the tab at the top of your web browser, and in any navigation tools, you use on your site. They help the user have a better idea of where they can find the content or information they are looking for on your site.

Giving your page appropriate titles and names will help you boost your Search Engine Optimisation in the same way that keywords do. When a search is made with Google, having titles and names that match or are close to, the search term will help your website appear further up the results page.

To add page names and titles to your site, start the page editing screen:

  • Step 1 of 2

On the left hand side of the screen you will see the site map window. Add your page title and page file name to the respective boxes.

  • Step 2 of 2

Save your amendments by clicking the Save Changes button in the top left hand corner of the page.
