This FAQ will help you to manage your .at Domain Name expiry

These instructions will help you renew or cancel your domain and also how to set it to expire.

The renewal/expiry procedure that the governing registry operates for the .at domain name extension is considerably different from other domain name extensions. This article will explain both how to renew your .at domain name and how to let it expire.

How do I renew my .at domain name with 123 Reg?

If you wish to renew your .at domain name through 123 Reg, you will need to do so through your 123 Reg control panel at least 1 day prior to the expiry date.

123-reg will send you a renewal reminder to the registered email address on your 123 Reg account 30 days prior to your domain names expiry date. Any domain names that are not renewed by the date(s) specified in your reminder will be deleted from our database and the registrant will be solely responsible for managing the domain name. Please allow up to three business days for the renewal order to complete. If no renewal order is received by that date, the domain name is automatically moved to nic.at, the root registry for .AT domains.

At that point, the Registrant becomes solely responsible for the name. The name is NOT deleted at the registry; only a Registrant can delete a .AT domain name through the .AT registry, and must sign a cancellation waiver in order to do so.

Important: .AT domains are auto-renewed at the registry by default; therefore, if the Registrant does not delete the name, you will be responsible for paying the renewal charge directly to the registry.

You acknowledge that 123 Reg will take payment for renewals up to 90 days before the expiry date, in order to avoid any possible delays and to ensure payment is delivered before renewal expires.

I do not want to renew my .at domain name, I want it to expire.

Important: If you do not wish to renew your .at domains, please select the "allow to expire" option at least 90 days before its expiry. You must put in writing your notice to cancel at least 90 days prior to the expiry date of the domain name with the registry.

To set your .at domain names to expire follow the steps below:

1

Login to your 123-reg control panel.

2

Go to the Domain names section.

Click Manage domain auto renewal, just below the Domain renewals link.

3

The Domain Cancellation page will show list of domain names registered within this account.

Simply turn off auto-renewal for the domains you wish to let expire by using the Autorenewal switch associated with each one.

.at Domain cancellation

A domain can be cancelled at any time, but only by the domain holder themselves – in writing and personally/by an authorised signatory of the company.

For a cancellation they need a fax confirmation:
http://www.nic.at/fileadmin/www.nic.at/documents/formulare/Cancellation.pdf

As the cancellation date you can choose “immediately” or “at the end of the current service period”. From this date on the domain is locked (cool-down period) and, thus, no longer technically operative. After this technical lock (presumably 8 weeks) the domain will be available for a new registration.

If the above procedure is not followed, once the domain name is within 8 days of expiry, the domain name must be paid for and you will receive a notice to pay letter from the governing registry for €36.

Please note: The policies and procedures outlined above are those of the governing registry, not 123 Reg.
