So, there may be a few reasons why you are changing your nameservers to 123-reg.
Perhaps you’ve just transferred your domain name to 123-reg and need to manage it in your control panel.
Or maybe your 123-reg domain name is pointing to your web hosting provider’s nameservers, but you’ve now decided you want to fully manage your domain’s DNS in your 123-reg control panel.
You can also change your nameservers to a 3rd party provider’s settings.
For example your website is being hosted with a 3rd party hosting company, and you want to change to their nameservers.
But please note that if you wish to do this you will no longer be able to manage your domain’s DNS within your control panel.
Just follow these simple steps to change your nameservers.
You will first need to log into your 123-reg control panel.
Using the drop down menu here, choose the domain name you wish to change the nameservers for and then click on the ‘manage’ button.
Depending on what type of domain name you have, you may have to unlock it first.
So just have a look in the ‘domain transfers’ menu just here.
If the manage domain locking option does not appear here, then you won’t need to unlock the domain name.
For domains that need unlocking, you’ll see the ‘manage domain locking’ option, just click on it.
Ok, now click here on ‘unlock domain’, which will allow you to change the nameservers for this domain name.
Once this is done you should see a message stating that the domain name has been successfully unlocked, and then you can click here to go back to the ‘manage domain’ page.
Now click on ‘change nameservers’.
If you wish to change your nameservers to 123-reg, simply click ‘reset to 123-reg default’ and it should read ‘ns.123-reg.co.uk’ and in the second box it should read ‘ns2.123-reg.co.uk’.
And if you wish to change your nameservers to a 3rd party provider then simply add in their nameserver settings in these boxes and then click ‘update’.
That’s it, your nameservers are now changed.
Please note that it could take up to 48 hours for your name server changes to propagate over the internet.
But again please note, if you have changed your nameservers to a 3rd party provider this will mean you can no longer manage your domain’s DNS in your 123-reg control panel.
