Legacy Supanames - How do I restore my MySQL Database from a backup?

This article applies to Legacy Supanames hosting packages.

You can make a MySQL backup using the MySQL Backup feature in MyPanel and this will create a Zipped Backup file in your FTP filespace.

Once you have your MySQL backup it should be downloaded and unzipped to a folder locally on your PC.

To restore a MySQL database from a backup, please do the following:

1

Go to your MyPanel and in the left hand menu click on the MySQL Databases -Databases submenu. It is a good idea to restore your database backup into a fresh database of the same name in your MyPanel, so we recommend that you delete the existing database in MyPanel (making sure you have your backup stored on your PC of the database already).

2

You will now need to recreate this database from new, so click on the Add a Database to button.

3

Now you should have a new database in which to upload or read - in your backup to. Please click on Edit on the new database.

4

Please click on the SQL Tab on the next page.

5

Click the Browse button to locate the backup on your PC that you unzipped earlier. The file you are looking for is usually yourdatabase_name.sql, you may need to browse down through the folder hierarchy of the backup file you unzipped until you reach it.

6

Click open then the GO button.

Important: Do not close the browser down while your database backup is being read in.

You should then be notified if your database backup was successfully read-in. If this is not the case then it may be your database backup is larger that our MyPanel interface can upload by itself. Please contact support using the Ask a Question tab at the top of this page should this occur for further advice.
