Who can register .uk domains?

You don’t need to live in the UK or be a British citizen to register a .uk domain, as anyone can claim one!

Since there are different types of .uk extensions available, you may wish to choose one that reflects your enterprise. Check out our list below to determine the most suitable option for your needs:

  • .co.uk: designed for businesses.
  • .me.uk: designed for individuals.
  • .org.uk: designed for non-profit organisations.

The governing registry for .uk domains is Nominet.

Registration Requirements

When it comes to registering your .uk domain, you’ll need to make sure it meets the following standards:

  • Length: 1 – 64 characters.
  • Permitted Characters: letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens.*
  • Unaccepted Characters: special characters (, & # or !).
  • Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs): not supported.

*You cannot use a hyphen for the first or last character of your domain name.

 

You will need to provide the following details during the checkout process:

  • Contact Name
  • Address
    • This must include your city, county and postcode.
  • Contact Number
    • This must include the country code (i.e. +44 345 450 2310).
  • Email Address

 

If you’re registering your domain as a limited company, you will need to provide the following additional information:

  • Organisation Name
    • This must contain a minimum of 4 characters, with at least 3 letters.
  • Company Registration Number

 

If you’re registering your domain as a charity, you will need to provide the following additional information:

  • Organisation Name
    • This must contain a minimum of 4 characters, with at least 3 letters.
  • Registered Charity Number

 

If you’re registering your domain as a school, you will need to provide the following additional information:

  • School Name
    • This must contain a minimum of 4 characters, with at least 3 letters.
  • DfES UK School Number

 

If you’re registering your domain as a UK partnership, you will also need to provide the names of your partners.

Features

  • Registration Length: 1-10 years.
  • Renewal Length: 1-10 years.
    • We will attempt to auto-renew your domain 7 days prior to its expiration date. If this fails, your domain will be parked 5 days after this date. We will re-attempt auto-renewal on this day, and again at 10 and 15 days. If your domain hasn’t been renewed 15 days after the expiration date, please contact our Support team.
