How do I point my 3rd party domain name to my 123 Reg website?
This FAQ will help you to point your 3rd party domain name to your 123 Reg website.
The below video will help you to point your 3rd party domain name to your 123 Reg website.
Step 1 of 6
Firstly you will need to set up and A record, or a CNAME record, on your domain name in your 3rd party account. This should be relatively simple, as this is standard functionality for most domain name providers, however, if you are struggling, then please get in contact with your domain name provider to ask for assistance.
You will need to create your new record to point to your hosting package's IP Address.
How do I know what the IP address for my Hosting package is? You can find the IP address for your hosting package, by logging into your package's control panel and checking which package type you are using. Your package type will be shown in the Account information section on the right-hand side of the control panel.
Each package type has its own IP address, so check the table below to see which is your IP.
- All packages purchased before March 30th, 2015: 184.108.40.206
- For packages purchased after March 30th, 2015, see: How do I add a domain name to my webhosting package?
- Plus* 220.127.116.11
- Plus* 18.104.22.168
- Pro 22.214.171.124
- Business Pro 126.96.36.199
- Starter 188.8.131.52
- Business 184.108.40.206
- Unlimited 220.127.116.11
Please note: All Windows hosting packages purchased since 10/11/2014 will use the IP address 18.104.22.168
Step 2 of 6
Now you need to map your domain name to your hosting package through your 123 Reg Control panel. From the package management section, click on the Domain Mapping link.
Step 3 of 6
Next you must specify that you would like to map an external domain name. Do that by clicking the link in the external domain name passage of text, as shown below.
Step 4 of 6
We will need to check the domain name in question before we allow you to map it to a hosting package. Ensure you have the Point a domain registered elsewhere option selected, then enter the domain into the text field, and then click the Check button.
Step 5 of 6
Once we see that the domain name is registered elsewhere, click the Yes button when asked if you own the domain name elsewhere.
Step 6 of 6
You will now be reminded to set up the DNS record on your domain name in your 3rd party account. If you have done so already, click on the Point domain to 123 Reg to complete the process. Your domain name will now be pointed to your hosting package.
Please note: These changes may take 24 to 48 hours to propagate across the internet and your DNS records to update.
