How do I add a domain name to my Web Hosting package?
The below step-by-step instructions will show you how to add a domain name to your Web Hosting package to allow you to host a new website through 123 Reg.
Please note: Our Web hosting packages automatically set up both an @ A record and www A record for you when you map a website to your package. This means that your visitors will be able to find your website by either typing www.yourdomain.com or just yourdomain.com.
The following steps apply to Web Hosting plans purchased after July 2020 and Premium Hosting plans purchased after August 2020 (cPanel):
On your dashboard, select the cPanel Admin button that appears above Settings.
Select Domains in the Domains section.
Select the Create a New Domain option.
Enter the name of the domain you wish to add. The interface may suggest alternatives for you to use.
Once you’re happy with it, select Submit to add your domain or Submit and Create Another to add another domain.
The following steps apply to Web Hosting plans purchased before July 2020 and Premium Hosting plans purchased before August 2020:
Start by logging in to your 123 Reg Control Panel.
From there, select Web Hosting or Premium Hosting within the ‘Manage active products’ section, depending on which product you wish to use.
Next, select Manage opposite the ‘(bought before XX/XX/XX)’ option.
This will show you an overview of your current hosting packages. Click Manage for the account you wish to use.
Scroll down to the Add a new website section. Here you can select the domain name you wish to use by either typing it in to the box provided or by using the drop down menu to select your domain name.
Then enter an admin email into the box provided, and click the Create button.
If you are using an external domain name simply type the domain name your require into the box. You will need to make sure to update the DNS records with your current provider to point that domain to your 123 Reg Shared Hosting IP address. (This IP address can be found on your welcome email).
If the domain name is registered with 123 Reg or you have purchased a new domain with your Shared Hosting package then your DNS records will be updated automatically once you have added a domain using the manage websites tool.
You can check that your domain name is pointing to the right IP address by clicking on the details tab on your Shared hosting package.
This will show you the IP address your package is pointed at, as well as the temporary URL of your website. You can also update the admin email of your site from this section.
