How do I add a password protected directory?

This FAQ will help you to password protect a directory

This article will explain how you can password protect a directory on your hosting package and make a certain area of your website private.

This will allow you to protect certain areas of your site, to only allow those that you wish to have access to be able to view the directory.

The following steps apply to Web Hosting plans purchased after July 2020 and Premium Hosting plans purchased after August 2020:

Start by logging in to your Control Panel and scroll down to ‘Web Hosting’. From there, select Manage.

On the next page, select Manage for the account you wish to use.

Select the three-dot icon for the package you want to edit. From there, choose Settings from the drop-down menu that appears.

On your dashboard, select the cPanel Admin button that appears above Settings.

Select Directory Privacy under the Files section.

Find and select the directory that you want to password protect.

Click Password protect this directory. Once done, select Enter a name for the protected directory and select Save.

The following steps apply to Web Hosting plans purchased before July 2020 and Premium Hosting plans purchased before August 2020:

Click on the Password Protection link in the Web Tools section.

 

Step 2 of 3

Enter the name of the directory that you wish to secure in the Directory name field.

Please Note: If the directory you wish to secure has not been created in your webhosting account it will be created by the system

 

Step 3 of 3

Set a Username and Password, press the Add Protection button to complete the process.

You have now created a password protected directory for your website.
