How do I move my website to Linux Hosting with FTP?
This article will show you how to move your website via FTP.
If you need to upload or backup your website, you can do this by using an FTP client. If you’re not sure which one to use, there are many free options available, including:
Although you may use any of these clients, the following instructions apply to FileZilla.
Please note: before getting started, you will need your FTP login details and/or IP address. If you’re not sure where to find these, please read the following articles:
- How can I find my FTP username and password?
- How can I find the correct IP address/temporary URL for my hosting account?
Start by opening FileZilla.
Next, enter the following information into the provided fields:
- Host: your IP address or domain name
- Username: your FTP username
- Password: your FTP password
- Port: 21
Once you’ve done this, click Quickconnect.
After you’ve connected to your hosting account, open the root directory for your domain name within the Remote site section.
Your Primary Domain should be in the /public_html folder. Addon (or secondary) domains, meanwhile, can be placed in any folder. You can see your domain mappings by accessing cPanel Admin within your dashboard, followed by Domains.
Next, open the folder that contains all your website’s files within the Local site section.
Alternatively, you can download your files by selecting them from the Remote site folder and dragging them into the desired directory within the Local site section.
