This article will list the most frequently asked questions related to our changes to Direct Debit as a payment method.

Why have you removed Direct Debit as a payment method?

We made a business decision to remove Direct Debit as a payment method. Credit/debit cards and PayPal links will continue to be accepted. 


Do I need to cancel the Direct Debit with my bank?

No, this won’t be necessary as we will be cancelling your Direct Debit payment from 15th January 2023. 

However, what you will need to do is set up an alternative payment method on your account before 15th January, so that we can continue to process your renewals. 

What payment methods can I use instead?

You can either use a credit/debit card, or you can add your PayPal account.

Why can’t I change my default renewal method?

Due to the nature of this payment option, you will not be able to change the status of your default renewal method if you already have Direct Debit set up.  

Your current direct debit payment will continue to be used for renewal payments until the 15th January 2023.  

However, we recommend that you add a backup renewal method (i.e. via PayPal or a debit/credit card) prior to this date, so once your direct debit payment is cancelled on 15th January 2023, your chosen backup will then be used to process your renewals going forward.

I can only add a ‘backup’ renewal method. Will this be okay?

Yes, having PayPal or a debit/credit card as your backup renewal method will ensure that your renewals can be processed as usual after 15th January 2023. 

What will happen if I don’t set up an alternative payment/renewal method?

If you fail to add a different payment method by 15th January 2023, we will not be able to process any renewals on your 123 Reg account.  

As such, you will be at risk of losing your products and any services associated with them. 

Will my ongoing payments complete?

Your direct debit renewal payments will continue to process until the 15th January 2023. After this, you will be unable to pay using Direct Debit. However, as payments are attempted in advance of renewal dates, payments that were requested before this date and that are currently pending, may still be taken after this date as per your direct debit instruction.  

You will need to set up an alternative, backup payment method on your account before 15th January, such as a credit/debit card or PayPal, so that we can continue to process your renewals.
