We understand this may be disappointing news, but this is an important step that must be taken as these products have reached their end of life.

If you own any of these products but HAVEN’T received an email from us about its termination, please make sure the contact details on your account are correct and up-to-date to avoid missing any vital communications from us. For details on how to do this, please read the following article: How do I change the contact details on my 123 Reg account?

Are there any next steps that I should take?

Depending on which product you have, you may need to perform a few actions to ensure that you don’t lose your files. Choose your product from the list below and follow the provided instructions:

Cloud Backup

We recommend that you log in to your package and download your backup files. If you’re not sure how to do this, please read the following articles:

Since we are unable to automatically transfer your services to an alternative platform, you may wish to seek out a third-party alternative.

Cloud Servers

We recommend that you:

  1. Download all the files that are currently on your Cloud Server.
  2. Consider purchasing and importing your files into a new package.

If you’re struggling to find an alternative package, our Virtual Private Servers may be a suitable option as they provide similar functionality to your current Cloud Server. However, please review the product details and ensure this service is appropriate for your needs.

Should you need any help in purchasing and setting this up, please contact our Support team and they will assist you.

InstantSite

We recommend that you purchase a new package to which you can transfer your website. If you’re struggling to find an alternative package, our latest Website Builder product or Make Me A Website service may be a suitable option.

You may receive a call from one of our experts to discuss this with you, or you can contact our team on +44 (0)333 014 4550.

InstantTraffic

Since we are unable to transfer your services to an alternative platform, you may wish to seek out a third-party alternative. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Online Shop (purchased before 15th October 2015)

Since this product runs on ePages, a specialist provider of ecommerce solutions, we will be moving affected Online Shop packages to ePages managed datacentre on the 17th January 2023, to ensure that your service will remain online.

Although we expect minimal downtime during this process, you will then need to follow the steps below to ensure you don’t lose your website and any files associated with it if you want to continue using this service.

We will provide you with a unique link via email to create your ePages account to sign up as a direct customer with them. From there the features and pricing of your plan will be confirmed by ePages directly. Further questions about the service can be submitted to service@epages.com.

If the domain name associated with your Online Shop is not held with 123 Reg, you will need to update its DNS records to point to the new location of your Online Shop. We will confirm these details closer to the transfer date. If however your domain name is held with 123 Reg no action is required as we will make this change for you.

In addition to this, if you have set up the free mailbox that’s included with your Online Shop package, then we recommend that you purchase an Email Hosting plan. Otherwise, you will be at risk of losing your mailbox as this will no longer be available after 17th January 2023. For more details on how to manage your mailbox quota, please read the following article: How to modify your mailbox quota

If you no longer wish to keep your mailbox, you may wish to back up your emails. If you’re not sure how to do this, please read the following article: How to back up your email

In addition to this, if you have set up the free mailbox that’s included with your Website Builder package, then we recommend that you purchase either of these two packages or an Email Hosting plan. Otherwise, you will be at risk of losing your mailbox on Tuesday 10th January 2023. For more details on how to manage your mailbox quota, please read the following article: How to modify your mailbox quota

If you no longer wish to keep your mailbox, you may wish to back up your emails. If you’re not sure how to do this, please read the following article: How to back up your email

Digital Marketing Suite

This includes Competitor Insights, Search Engine Optimiser, Ad Builder and the Full Marketing Suite.

Since these products are provided by rankingCoach, a specialist provider of marketing solutions, you can sign up to become a direct customer of theirs using the link provided in your termination email. From there, the features and pricing of your plan will be confirmed by rankingCoach directly.

To ensure a smooth transition, all the data you’ve added (such as your chosen keywords, competitors and task progress) will remain intact and can be resumed should you decide to purchase their rankingCoach 360 service, which should be available at a discounted price.

Specific TLDs

From 27th March 2023, we will no longer support specific TLDs – a full list of which can be seen below. As such, if you wish to keep your domain(s), you will need to transfer them to a third-party provider before 27th March 2023. If you’re not sure how to do this, please read the following article: Transferring a domain away from 123 Reg

If you have enabled Domain Ownership Protection on your domain(s), you will need to disable this service before you can transfer them. For details on how to do this, please read the following article: How do I cancel or disable Domain Ownership Protection for my domains?

In addition to this, if your domain(s) are associated with any services, such as Web Hosting, Email Hosting or Website Builder, you may need to assign them a different domain name. For details on how to do this, please read the following articles:

If you would be interested in using an alternative domain name, please contact our Support team and they will be happy to assist you.

Email Hosting: Generation 1 Mailboxes

From 17th April 2023, we will be migrating all Generation 1 mailboxes to our new platform, after which we will be ending our support for Generation 1 mailboxes.

Although we are unable to confirm exact timings, you’ll receive an email 7 days and 1 day before your migration is scheduled to start, informing you of any actions that you need to take.

The amount of time it will take for your migration to complete will depend on the number and size of your mailboxes, but we will notify you via email once your migration is complete. We estimate that all migrations will be completed by December 2023.

Although you can still use your mailbox after your migration is complete, there will be some changes to your existing features. Customers affected by these changes will receive an email from us with details of any steps they need to take.

For more information on the migration of Generation 1 mailboxes, please read the following article: Email Hosting Migration – Frequently Asked Questions.

Please note: Your mailbox will be locked one day before your migration is scheduled to start and you will not be able to send any emails until your migration is complete.

Web Hosting (purchased before 9th July 2020)

From 24th April, we will be upgrading all Web Hosting packages that were purchased before 9th July 2020 to our faster and easier-to-use hosting platform, featuring cPanel. After this upgrade is complete, we will retire this older Web Hosting platform.

You will be placed onto the closest equivalent plan for our cPanel Web Hosting platform, based on your current package’s price and resources, and you’ll continue to be charged the standard price of your current Linux Web Hosting plan until its renewal date. On this date, you will be charged the standard renewal price of your assigned cPanel Web Hosting plan. This may result in your renewal payments increasing, but you will be informed of any price changes in advance.

Although we are unable to confirm exact timings, you’ll receive an email 7 days before your upgrade is scheduled to start, informing you of any actions that you need to take. If you own multiple Linux Web Hosting packages, you will receive one email for each package that is being upgraded. These upgrades may be performed at different times.

You will likely experience a downtime of around 15 to 30 minutes during this upgrade, but this may take longer for websites with large files and database sizes. Although we estimate that all the upgrades will be completed by the end of the year, we will keep you updated should these timings change. We’ll also send you an email once each upgrade is complete that will tell you about any next steps.

If any malware is detected on your hosting product, we may not be able to proceed with your upgrade until the infected files have been removed. Should this happen, we will notify you about this via email.

For more information on the upgrade of Web Hosting packages, please read our Web Hosting Upgrade Guide.

Premium Hosting (purchased before 28th September 2020)

From 1st May, we will be upgrading all Premium Hosting packages that were purchased before 28th September 2020 to our faster and easier-to-use hosting platform, featuring cPanel. After this upgrade is complete, we will retire this older Premium Hosting platform.

You will be placed onto the closest equivalent plan for our cPanel Premium Hosting platform, based on your current package’s price and resources, and you’ll continue to be charged the standard price of your current Linux Premium Hosting plan until its renewal date. On this date, you will be charged the standard renewal price of your assigned cPanel Premium Hosting plan. This may result in your renewal payments increasing, but you will be informed of any price changes in advance.

Although we are unable to confirm exact timings, you’ll receive an email 7 days before your upgrade is scheduled to start, informing you of any actions that you need to take. If you own multiple Linux Premium Hosting packages, you will receive one email for each package that is being upgraded.

For more information on the upgrade of Premium Hosting packages, please read our Premium Hosting Upgrade Guide.

Am I eligible for a refund?

Yes, we will be issuing a refund to your original payment method within 28 days from your product termination date.

If you are on an annual contract, we will be issuing a pro-rata refund. For example, if you are four months into your annual contract, we will refund you for the remaining eight months. If you are on a monthly contract, we will refund you for last month’s payment. If, however, your original payment method is no longer available, we will issue the equivalent credit to your 123 Reg account instead.

Please check your invoices within 28 days of your product termination date to determine if your refund has been processed.

Please note: we will not be able to refund domain name purchases. This is because domains will keep their expiry dates regardless of whether you choose to transfer or not. We will not be able to refund mailboxes either as they will continue to operate following your migration.
