How do I install Bare Metal Tools in my cloud server?

This article applies to 123 Reg Cloud Servers and Dedicated Cloud Servers.

What are the Bare Metal Tools?

Bare Metal Tools is a software package containing optimised drivers for the virtual hardware and software needed to communicate with the virtualisation platform.

When do I need to install them?

You will need to install Bare Metal Tools whenever a custom OS is installed on your 123 Reg Cloud Server.

How do I install Bare Metal Tools?

Windows

Step 1 of 4

Attach the installation image to your 123 Reg Cloud Server using the Mount option on the Mount ISO tab of your 123 Reg Cloud Server.

Step 2 of 4

A pop up window will appear asking you if you want to run the autostart option to launch the installer, confirm this to continue.

Step 3 of 4

Once the installation has completed, it will then start a count down for the necessary reboot.

Confirm to reboot now or wait for the count down to finish.

Linux

Attach the installation image to your 123 Reg Cloud Server using the Mount option on the Mount ISO tab of your 123 Reg Cloud Server.

Mount the installation image to the virtual CD drive (/dev/sr0 in most cases):

mount /dev/sr0 /mnt

Change the directory using this command cd /mnt and run the installer with the following command./install.

Confirm any additional packages that need to be installed and they will download in the background, then wait until the installer is finished.

Once the installer is finished it will request a reboot before the changes can be applied, confirm to continue.

After the OS is booted again, you may need to wait up to 30 minutes until the control panel shows that the Bare Metal Tools are installed and working properly.
