How to change the hostname on my server?
This article will explain how to change the hostname on your 123 Reg Virtual Private Server.
Changing your Hostname is an efficient way of protecting your server from hackers and spammers.
Since this process differs depending on which version of our Virtual Private Server you have, please select your version from the list below and follow the provided steps to get started.
Start by logging in to your 123 Reg Control Panel.
Next, select Servers within the ‘All Products and Services’ section.
Click Manage opposite the VPS you want to update.
You will now be taken to your dashboard. From here, click Settings.
On the next page, click Change opposite Hostname within the Server section.
Enter your new hostname into the provided field and click Save to confirm your changes. Provided your new hostname meets our requirements, you can then see your change within your Settings.
VPS – cPanel
To change your Hostname on a VPS running cPanel:
Start by logging in to WHM.
Use the Search Bar in the top, left of the page to search for Hostname.
Click on the Change Hostname link in the Networking Setup section.
You can edit the Hostname in the text field at the bottom of the page. When complete, click the Change
button to confirm the changes.
VPS – Plesk
To change your Hostname on a VPS running Plesk:
Log in to your Plesk Control Panel.
Click on the Tools and Settings link from the menu on the left hand side of the page.
Click on the Server Settings option under the General Settings section.
You can edit the Hostname in the text field at the top of the page. When complete, click the OK button to
confirm the changes.
