How do I upload a file to my Website Builder website?

Adding files to your Website Builder website

This will allow you to upload files to your website so that your visitors can download them. For example, you could upload your choirs song sheets, or sign up forms for your new football team.

Website Builder will allow you to load the following document types via the Files gallery uploader:


‘pdf’, ‘doc’, ‘docx’, ‘xls’, ‘xlsx’, ‘txt’, ‘ppt’, ‘pps’, ‘pptx’


‘mp3’, ‘aac’, ‘ogg’, ‘wma’, ‘mp4’, ‘m4v’, ‘m4a’, ‘m4b’, ‘aiff’, ‘mov’, ‘wmv’, ‘flv’, ‘swf’


‘tar’, ‘gz’,’zip’

Please Note: The total file storage in Website Builder for files and images is limited to 2GB for a Starter package, 2GB for a Personal, 4GB for a Business and unlimited for a Business Mobile. The maximum file size you can upload is 10MB.

This feature is applicable to multiple versions of the Website Builder platform, so please use the options below to find the appropriate instructions for the package you are using. If you are not sure which version of Website Builder you are using, you can use this article to check.

From the Widgets menu, drag and drop the file widget onto your page.

Your file will be accessible through a button, so simply name your button and then click on File to associate your chosen document with the button.

This will open the Uploaded Files panel. Click on the Upload New File button if you need to upload a new file.

Use the design tab to change the way your button looks on your page, including changing the text and button styling.

Before you start, please ensure that you have an active Dropbox account, or if not, have created a new one. Dropbox is a cloud based file storage platform designed to allow you access to your files from anywhere.

From the Media section of the Add Content dropdown menu, select the Dropbox widget and add it to the area of your page in which you wish it to display.

Click on the Dropbox widget to open the settings panel.

Click on the Choose from Dropbox button to select the file you want to offer for download.

This will open a pop up prompting you to login to your Dropbox account.

You will now be able to select the file you wish to display on your site.

You can now edit your Dropbox settings, for example, you can choose to display the file name, align the button and change the button text. When complete, click the Save button.

From the Design view, click the Media Tab, which is located in the left hand pane in the Design window.

You will see a gallery of files available to you. You can add additional files (up to a total file size of 10Mb). To upload your new file click the + Add link.

From the pop-up file manager window locate and click the image you wish to upload. Click the Open button to select the image.

Your new file is now available for you to drag and drop from the file gallery into your website design.
