How to tailor your website to your customers
This FAQ will help you to set up Personalisation on your Website Builder website.
Personalisation is a feature of Website Builder that allows you to customise areas of your site based on certain criteria. For example, if you are running a sale over a set period of time, you can provide voucher codes, or you can display a message to regular visitors of your site, or simply wish your visitors a Merry Christmas.
How can I tailor my website to my customers?
In this video, we’ll show you how to tailor your website to your customers, using the Insite tool on your Website Builder package.
So your website is perfectly structured and designed, your logo is created, all of the text is relevant and engaging and it’s mobile responsive.
However, to further enhance user experience and keep customers on your website for long enough to purchase, it’s a great idea to tailor your website to them.
Choosing to target your visitors by location, or whether or not they are a new or returning customer will help them to feel special when visiting your website, which means they are more likely to stay on your website.
Let’s see how this works.
For example, you may have customers looking at your website from various locations.
If someone accesses your website using a mobile phone from a very close proximity, then you can choose to display the click to call icon.
If they’re further away from where your business is located, you could choose to display a map, or even a discount voucher to entice them to visit your business.
There are many different ways to tailor your website to your customers, let’s have a look at the inSite options on your Website Builder package to try one out.
Once you’re logged into your package, click on inSite and choose the type of inSite option you want for your website, and then click on here.
So say you’re targeting first-time visitors to your website.
You can choose to display a video; this might be a highlights video of your company’s latest achievements or a promotional video that will help to entice your visitors to want to stay on your site.
Just click here on edit insite, and you can customise the options.
Click on next and you can decide what page you would like the video to appear on and how it should look on the page.
Click on edit to add in the URL for the video.
When you’re finished editing, click on done and you can select a name for the inSite, you can then preview it.
If you’re happy with your inSite, click here to save it.
Remember you can add as many inSites as you require, and customise them how you like.

Please note: This feature is only available on Website Builder version 8 but is not available with our Starter package. If you are unsure which version of Website Builder you are using, you can use this article to find out.
From the Website Builder menu, select the InSite tab.
This will open the Personalisation menu, which will allow you to select from a number of pre-built rules, or allow you to create your own. In this example, we’ll be adding a notification bar to our website.
Click on the Select Rule button for your chosen rule.
Here you can select the trigger that causes your rule. By default, the notification bar occurs to all visitors during a selected date range, which is useful for a whole range of things – for example, if you are going on holiday and your business is closing on a certain date, you can use this to let your visitors know.
You can use the change trigger option to change which trigger causes your notification – perhaps you want it to occur only for new visitors, or for a visitor on their 10th visit to your site.
Once you’ve set your trigger, click the Next button.
Now you can customise your notification bar. Edit the text in the bar and use the tool bars to choose your desired colour scheme and font. Some rules have some settings options that will allow you to edit certain other elements of your site.
Finally you must review and confirm your new rule. You can use the Preview button to make sure that everything is working correctly, and use the Back button if you need to make changes.
Once you’re happy with it, name your rule. Make sure you name it something memorable in case you need to return to it at a later date, then click Save.
