This one’s important for anyone who owns a domain ending in which they control through a 123-reg account. (The information below only applies to domains ending in – all other .com domains are completely unaffected.)

As of later today (March 31), domains will cease to resolve. This means any website located at an address ending in will be unreachable at that address. We’re really sorry about this: unfortunately the issue is out of our control.

Why this is happening

All domains purchased through 123-reg are administrated by an organisation called CentralNic. CentralNic does not actually own but agreed to operate the registry for domains ending in in good faith, based on the fact that the owners of had managed it themselves for the preceding 6 years.

Since then, the domain has changed hands. The new owners have announced that they will no longer offer domains ending in and all existing domains will stop working.

Although 123-reg offers other CentralNic domains, like, these will be unaffected because CentralNic owns the extensions outright.

What you need to do

If you own a domain, you will have received an email from us explaining the situation some time ago.

You will need to move any affected sites to new domains. To help you do this, CentralNic has agreed to give everyone affected an alternative CentralNic domain for the remainder of their term plus an extra year – as long as that domain is available.

If you are affected by this issue, please follow these instructions to claim your new domain:

  1. Find a CentralNic domain you like using our domain search
  2. Double check the domain you want is a CentralNic domain. If it is a CentralNic domain, it will end in one of the extensions listed at the bottom of this post.
  3. Purchase the CentralNic domain for two years.
  4. Contact us using the ‘Ask a question’ option at Include your old and new domain names.
  5. We will refund you the cost of purchasing the new domain.

We will refund the cost of registering each domain for a two year period, but only for customers who have a domain registered with us. You may claim one replacement domain for each domain you own.

Other CentralNic domains

You can claim a replacement domain ending in any of the following extensions:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
