10 winning ideas powered by 123 Reg and Crowdfunder

By Will Stevens - March 17, 2017

Earlier this year, 123 Reg and Crowdfunder teamed up to offer ten businesses a game-changing opportunity.

We challenged budding entrepreneurs and growing startups to pitch us their ideas, and pitch they did.

Hundreds of entries were received, and we plucked out the top ten to start them on the path to crowfunding success – with support from Crowdfunder’s experts, and an extra £1,000 from 123 Reg for successful campaigns.

So here are the ten winning ideas. Why not offer them your support by making a pledge?

Norwich FoodHub

Norwich FoodHub collects surplus food from retailers, stores it and then distributes it to organisations that help people in food poverty.

It’s a simple idea, but one that can be life changing for people in need.

Since May 2016, Norwich FoodHub has collected more than nine tonnes of food that would have otherwise been wasted.

But the project is staffed entirely by volunteers. Your funding will help the organisation employ a part-time member of staff, who will help develop new relationships with retailers and groups that could receive the food, allowing Norwich FoodHub to expand its operations.

You’ll also help fund improvements to the organisation’s storage unit.

Clown Doctors

The name might sound unusual, but Clown Doctors is exactly what you imagine it to be.

The focus is on helping hospitalised children overcome the fears and insecurities they may be experiencing.

It also offers children opportunities to take part in artistic play, while at the same time the Clown Doctors work with hospital staff to ensure the scheme is an active part in each child’s overall care plan.

By funding this project, you’ll help run the project for six months in the Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Art On The Run

The great outdoors, art, and exercise. Art On The Run gives you a chance to experience all three at once.

It’s a simple idea – a 5k race through the woods with fantastical and surprising art installations along the way.

And of course, there’s no need to break any world records – you can sprint or walk your way to the finish line, where they’ll be a host of musicians to welcome you.

You can either donate to help fund the project, or pledge £60+ and secure your place in the event. You can do that here.

Raise A Toast

You may have heard it said that beer is liquid bread, and in the case of the Raise A Toast campaign, it’s literally true.

The innovative brewers Toast Ale, take surplus fresh bread that would otherwise go to waste (two tonnes of the stuff in their first year), and turn it into bottled beer.

Now they’re raising money to expand their line of beers, which will allow them to cut food waste even further.

And of course, if you do decide to pledge, there are some tasty rewards on offer – including the chance to land 600 bottles of beer.

Teeny Greeny Farm

A farm like no other, Teeny Greeny Farm is based on less than an acre of land and covers back gardens, fields and other spaces rented from homeowners.

In exchange for letting the farm use their land, the landowners receive a weekly basket of produce during the growing season.

The project helps people who either can’t, or are unable to, grow their own vegetables enjoy fresh produce.

By backing the project, you’ll help the farm expand its project to local schools – where founder Lee-Morgan Greet will teach children to grow their own vegetables.

There’s a variety of rewards on offer to pledgers, including, of course, a month’s worth of fresh produce.

People of the Streets

Homelessness is a real problem in the UK, and this Nottingham-based project is aimed at helping people get off the streets.

The first phase of the project will see the creation of an online store, where the public can purchase everyday items such as toiletries and warm clothes and have them delivered to the people who need them most – the homeless.

As you might imagine, this Crowdfunder scheme is a little bit different than usual – there are still rewards on offer, but they’ll be used to help a homeless person in need.

Share Your Sun

It’s the time of year when people’s thoughts start turning to summer holidays, so if you’re in need of a new pair of sunglasses, you should check out the Share Your Sun campaign, run by Bird.

Bird is a sunglasses brand with a difference – for every pair they sell, they distribute a solar light to families in Malawi, Zambia and Uganda.

The campaign will help launch the Bird sunglasses brand, and of course there’s a chance to get your hands on a pair for yourself, while at the same time changing lives across Africa. You can pledge here.

Still to launch
