What is the .eu domain?
Introduced by the European Commission, .eu is the official domain extension for the European Union – making it clear that your products and services are designed for this market. With over 740 million people across Europe, a .eu domain gives you access to a diverse audience spanning dozens of nations – from Finland to Malta, Cyprus to Portugal, and everywhere in between.
Who can buy a .eu?
If you are based in one of the European Union Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway, you can purchase a .eu – whether you’re a business, an organisation, or an individual.
And because only people in the European Community can buy .eu domains, your visitors will know that you aren’t just within the same area, they’ll know you follow EU law and the relevant trading standards, giving them the reassurance and security they need.
If you're in the UK, you’ll now need a valid address in one of these countries to register or renew a .eu domain.
To register a .eu domain name, you must meet one of the following criteria:
✓ Be a company, organisation or other legal entity with a registered office, central administration or main place of business in an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway
✓ Be an organisation established in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway in accordance with local laws
✓ Be a natural person living in an eligible country. You’ll need an EU/EEA postal address, and domains on the blocked or reserved list can’t be registered.
This excludes domains on the blocked or reserved list.
